In a significant boost to Assam’s renewable energy landscape, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 70 MW solar power project in Khudigaon, Bilasipara in January 2026. This project marks one of the largest solar installations in the region and represents a major step forward in the state’s efforts to transition toward sustainable and clean energy.

The 70 MW project is expected to generate substantial electricity, contributing to the state grid and reducing reliance on conventional non-renewable energy sources such as coal and natural gas. By harnessing solar power at this scale, Assam is strengthening its energy security, meeting growing electricity demand, and promoting environmentally responsible development.

Officials emphasized that the project aligns with both national and state-level renewable energy targets, reflecting Assam’s commitment to sustainable growth and reducing carbon emissions.
