Assam Sees Solar Surge: 52,000 Homes Feed 31 Million Units to Grid under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Under the ambitious PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Assam has witnessed a significant surge in the adoption of rooftop solar systems, marking a major step forward in the state’s renewable energy journey. The scheme, which provides households with subsidized rooftop solar panels, has enabled thousands of homeowners to generate their own electricity while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable energy ecosystem.

According to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), the state is now procuring over 31 million units of surplus solar power generated by approximately 52,000 households across Assam. This reflects not only the success of the subsidy program but also the growing awareness among citizens about renewable energy and its environmental and economic benefits. Homeowners who have installed these solar panels are witnessing a substantial reduction in their electricity bills, while simultaneously supplying excess power back to the grid.

The initiative is playing a crucial role in addressing the state’s energy challenges. By feeding surplus electricity into the grid, these households are helping ease peak power demand, reducing strain on conventional energy sources, and ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply. Furthermore, the program strengthens Assam’s renewable energy capacity, aligns with national sustainability goals, and promotes energy independence at the household level.

Experts believe that continued support for rooftop solar adoption can significantly contribute to reducing the state’s carbon footprint, encourage green energy practices, and make Assam a model for solar-powered communities. With the PM Surya Ghar scheme, Assam is not just generating power—it is building a sustainable energy future for its citizens.
